The project involved 31 Year 6 pupils from St Nicholas and St Mary’s School Writhlington and the Victoria Hall Radstock. The project reached less children than originally envisaged because the schools decided to target the project at Year 6 and numbers were low in this year group. However, Welton Primary School also joined the project with a further 21 pupils. Although the school is not located within the Radstock and Westfield Big Local area, some of its pupils come from Radstock. Welton bought into the project at full cost and was not subsidised by Big Local Trust.
St Nicholas and St Mary’s Schools brought their pupils to visit the Victoria Hall gallery on 23/24th May to see the joint exhibition by Catherine Beale (professional watercolourist from Wellow) and Keith Wisbey (professional digital photographer from Peasedown). Catherine talked about the exhibition and her work as a professional artist. The children then had workshops with both artists on the theme of landscapes. They discovered how professional artists approach choosing subject, were introduced to the principles of composition, and learnt specific watercolour and digital photography techniques.
