SWALLOW won £500 at our 9th Dragons’ Den for their workbench and making project.
Jade Ogden led the project with the SWALLOW members and reports:
“Members of our Horticulture Group were delighted to be able to purchase a new wood-workbench, as it is something that they had wanted for a long time. It has enabled people to learn new skills and use proper wood-work tools in a safe environment. We have supported more people than ever before to get to grips with woodworking, with thanks to the support of Dragon’s Den.
Due to a valued (and highly skilled wood-worker) staff member re-locating to Cornwall, the group members were not able to create the full line of wooden products that they had anticipated. They did however, work together to create an amazing planter for the SWALLOW garden, which helped to commemorate our 30th Anniversary. They worked to upcycle pallets into this beautiful planter, that will continue as a legacy of this project.
One of our groups also used the wood-working tools to create a series of swallows, which they also hand painted. They have been proudly positioned at the front of our main building and have added some much-needed colour and creativity to the entrance.”
