A lovely message from the good people at Writhlington Allotments:
We are delighted to say that thanks to the funding we received from Big Local we were not only able to meet our goals but instead have surpassed them.
Writhlington Allotments now has a full Solar PV system as detailed in the photos which we include in this report, which allows for collected rainwater from 3 IBC containers to be distributed to a further 9 IBC containers.
This has increased our resilience in the face of ever longer and drier summers through water storage capacity which we have more than doubled. This was able to amply supply our polytunnel which throughout this growing season has provided the allotmenteers with fantastic produce from tomatoes to cucumbers, chillis, peppers and aubergines.
Whilst this has had a measured impact on the small community of allotment holders the impact of this we hope will be seen wider afield as we hope to inspire others to adopt similar, affordable renewable solutions to build resilience into community initiatives.
