Community money - invested by the community

Good news for our Big Local area as the Big Fund starts to make a difference

Big Fund
The Big Fund supports projects across the communities of Radstock and Westfield, which includes Clandown, Tyning, Writhlington and Haydon. If you have a project idea that fits one or more of our five themes of People, Place, Business, Life-long Learning, Mobility and you would like to develop it then please get in touch. We are able to provide free support throughout the application process. This can include step by step form filling, face to face coaching and advice on how to access further funding pots if required.

Launched at the end of last year, we’ve already approved two exciting applications from Whisty Community Association and Victoria Hall.

Did you know the name Whisty is short for Whitelands, Springfield & Tyning Community Association? They also have the distinction of being the first successful applicant to our new Big Fund. This will mean that Whisty Hall can become a community asset. Approval was given by our management committee to pay £640 for local solicitors Crossmans to give professional legal support that guarantees the paperwork is accurate and complete. This project fits into the improving local facilities of the Place theme, and will help protect the building from any unwelcome development in the future, keeping it for community use over the next 99 years. The hall hosts a diverse range of activities including dance classes, wrestling and pre-school groups to name but a few. This facility is also available to hire for multiple uses.

Victoria Hall has become one of the principle locations of community activity in Radstock. In order to boost this further Big Local has entered a partnership with Sue Hill Dance Ltd to purchase Bleacher seating which will provide a practical and comfortable auditorium for the main hall. With £26,470 this new facility will potentially create a fantastic conference and cinema facility for Radstock which will attract both local and outside interest. The advantage of this particular style of seating is that it is easily stored, which in minutes creates a great space for classes, markets and social functions. This investment is part of our strategy of developing the local economy through making Radstock an attractive destination of leisure and commerce.

Have a look at our themes and if something sparks your imagination that benefits Westfield or Radstock then do get in touch. Sarah and Rob are waiting for your call.
